Student Centre for Support and Adaptation (also known by the acronym of its Polish name SOWA, which means “an owl”) is a project addressed to the entire community of the Jagiellonian University, offering professional help with mental health problems affecting your studies, work, or private life.

Our help is conducted in the crisis intervention paradigm. We do not provide psychotherapy nor long-term treatment, but we offer help and support with the most urgent problems and current emotional crises.

The core of our work is individual help to all students in bachelor's and master's programmes, including those visiting us through a student exchange.

For the employees of our university and our PhD students, we offer support both in case of a personal crisis (the Consultation Unit) and in case of issues regarding students under their care (Mental health promotion & support team).

SOWA offers:

  • crisis intervention in a case of psychological crisis,
  • support in the process of adapting to a new environment,
  • mental health promotion and education,
  • information on how and where to seek psychiatric care or psychotherapy.

If you want to learn more about SOWA, you can watch or read a PowerPoint presentation about our centre in the Download section.

You can also check out our Library where we have two e-book guides available for free.
